Future Culture looks at the world as it could be, as it was, and as it should be. The group show mixes a curation of sculptural pieces, paintings, mixed-media creations, clay, ceramic, plastic, and audio pieces to present the uncertain future of our culture.

SHIH CHIEH HUANG: SYNTHETIC SEDUCTION

Shih Chieh Huang creates sculptural ecosystems using computer parts and common objects, such as plastic bags and bottles, which he animates in installations that mix a machine aesthetic with an organic impulse. Gathering inspiration from marine biology, Huang explores bioluminescence and its role in seduction and reproduction in the deep sea.

I See What You Say: Visual Stories and Narrative Art explores narrative as expressed through a wide range of illustrative media — in picture books, comics, editorial art, and beyond. The participants are not just artists, but storytellers, joining their artistic practices with their own narrative styles. Every approach is different. Every technique is different. Every story is something to see.

XARA THUSTRA POP-UP SHOW NEW EXPERIMENTAL WORKS On View April 12-27, 2013 LUGGAGE STORE

The Luggage Store Gallery is proud to present Pop-Up Show: New Experimental Works by XARA THUSTRA. The opening celebration will take place on Friday, April 12 from 7-9 p.m. with food and entertainment. The exhibition runs through April 27, 2013.

This will be a two-week exhibition. During the second week of the show, everything in the pop-up show is free. The installation consists of both older and new works. The artist’s intention is to leave “empty-handed.” Xara says this show is about “celebrating selfless acts.”

Luna Rienne Gallery is pleased to present Fine Line, a two-person show featuring Jet Martinez and Kelly Ording, a married couple of artists, Fine Line brings together the work they have created individually yet side by side. While their mediums and styles differ, Martinez and Ording share in common many other things: their use of vivid color and bold lines, an art studio, and two young children.

For the entire month of APRIL, the gifted and dexterous publisher and artist-team COLPA PRESS will be in residence at WILL BROWN.

The 24th street storefront space will house a bookstore featuring a selection of international artist publications, a print gallery, risographic studio operation, and a copy shop. Additionally, COLPA will host their very own print-based residency program* at WILL BROWN.

The inaugural exhibit curated by Brooke Waterhouse, gallery director of Project One Gallery, and Justin Giarla, founder and curator of San Francisco’s White Walls Gallery, will feature murals by Ben Eine, Casey Gray, Ricardo Richey (Apex), Jet Martinez, Rene Garcia Jr., and Nick Flatt.
