Content

The word monument represents something that’s stood the test of time, something historic, meaningful, and respected. It’s only suiting that a highly reputable furniture store be erected in San Francisco’s Mission district claiming precisely the same word to embody their business; an establishment that will no doubt, be in it for the long haul.
Monument was founded by Samuel Genther and Michael DeAngelis in the summer of 2004. Both had been working in the field of fine antiques and design when the collaboration occurred; it was time to put their knowledge to use and create something grand, something monumental. Over the last 6 years they’ve seen their business steadily grow; the seeds of a successful shop firmly rooted at 572 Valencia Street.
Known for their retro modern, mid-century furniture, lighting, and home accessories, Monument’s customers will never grow tired browsing through their one-of-a-kind merchandise. They stand out from a myriad of competition with their stellar customer service and eclectic mix of playful and fun antiques. The window shopping alone is enough for anyone to revisit.
Whether you’re in the market to buy an entire living room set or simply looking to browse, it’s hard not to swoon over items like their electric green leather Dunbar Sofa, turquoise tweed Jens Risom Club Chairs, gold Tortured Metal Chandelier, or Widdicomb Black Lacquer Desk with brass handles. People have been known to walk away with quality pieces that inspire them to decorate entire apartments or houses around.
At the rate things are going for Genther and DeAngelis, their store will surely evolve into the monument they envisioned at the start of their venture. Having already established their business as something meaningful and respected, all that’s left is the passing of a few years and a burgeoning patronage.
